Kristy Kurjan is an intuitive abstract artist based in Traverse City whose work explores the intersection of emotion, movement, and stillness. Working primarily in large-scale, mixed-media compositions, she draws inspiration from the natural rhythms of Northern Michigan—water, horizon lines, shifting light—and translates them into layered, textural pieces that evoke both calm and momentum. Guided by a deeply rooted meditative practice, Kristy approaches each painting as an act of intuitive channeling, allowing energy, breath, and emotion to take form organically on the canvas.

Her work is known for its signature use of blues and serene tonal palettes, creating a visual language that feels both expansive and grounding. Designed to be lived with, her pieces invite collectors into a personal, reflective experience—one that mirrors inner coherence while bringing a sense of depth, beauty, and presence into the home.

In addition to her studio practice, Kristy is the founder of KPO Creative Studios, where she fosters creativity, connection, and community through workshops, exhibitions, and shared artistic experiences. She is also an author and publisher of a beloved children’s book collection, blending storytelling, rhythm, and heart-centered creativity.

A graduate of Michigan State University, Kristy is an active member of the Traverse City arts community, teaching at Crooked Tree Arts Center and collaborating with local creatives and businesses. Whether in her studio, classroom, or community, her work is rooted in a singular intention: to create art that calms the soul and sparks connection.

 Beyond her creative endeavors, Kristy is a wife, mother of three, avid traveler, and enthusiastic tennis player. Her adventurous spirit, deep connection to family, love of water, and appreciation for the color blue inspire much of her work. You can find Kristy’s artwork and books locally at:
